Warning Signs of a Heart Attack
Chest Discomfort
Chest discomfort is the most common warning sign of a heart attack. It can feel like pressure, squeezing, or pain in the center of your chest. It may also feel like indigestion or heartburn.
Arm, Neck, and Jaw Pain
Pain in your arms, neck, or jaw can also be a sign of a heart attack. The pain may be sharp, dull, or achy. It may come and go, or it may be constant.
Shortness of Breath
Shortness of breath is another common warning sign of a heart attack. You may feel like you can't get enough air, or like you're suffocating.
Other Warning Signs
Other warning signs of a heart attack include:
- Cold sweats
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Lightheadedness
- Dizziness
- Fainting
Sudden Cardiac Arrest
In some cases, the first symptom of a heart attack is sudden cardiac arrest. This is when the heart suddenly stops beating. Sudden cardiac arrest is often fatal.
Call 911 Immediately
If you think you're having a heart attack, call 911 immediately. Don't drive yourself to the hospital. The sooner you get medical help, the better your chances of survival.
