Benzema wins it on spot
Trailing 5-3 on aggregate, City look set to reach final after Riyad Mahrez strike
Substitute Rodrygo’s dramatic late double took Real Madrid into extra time of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City on Wednesday.
Riyad Mahrez’s 73rd-minute goal looked set to send City to their second successive Champions League final as it put Pep Guardiola’s side 5-3 ahead on aggregate following the first leg. However, with time running out, Rodrygo struck twice in the space of 89 seconds to send the Santiago Bernabeu into raptures.
The first came from a cross by Vinicius Junior in the 90th minute, with the Brazilian forward then turning provider for Rodrygo’s stunning equaliser in the first minute of stoppage time.
Karim Benzema then struck the winning penalty in extra time after Aymeric Laporte was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
Real Madrid will now face Liverpool in the final in Paris on May 28.
